hi there,

as you have read, Chalky has done a great job at profiling
and speeding up berlin quite a bit. Integrating these changes
and making them work correctly will take a while though.

I just added support to the build system for TAO, an alternative
ORB, as well as omni's new colocation optimization (thanks to
Duncan for providing this).
Making the necessary changes to the actual source code is of course
quite tricky, but one thing you already can do now is configure for
these changes in the environment and compile berlin with them.

To build berlin with TAO, use

configure --with-ORB=TAO

and to run it with omniORB4 and the colocation optimization:

configure --with-ORB=omniORB --with-omniORB-version=4 \
--with-colocation-optimization

Any help in getting these new utilities up and running correctly
is of course highly appreciated.
